A letter from Bookleggers & CALM

Dear Booklover and Concerned Citizen,
Some of you may have heard that the libraries in Miami are in danger. CALM and Bookleggers are cosigning this letter in hopes that you will listen and reach out, to us and the rest of the community. The situation is dire.

Mayor Gimenez will damn the library into obsolesce by continuing his 50% budget cut from 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. The library is being punished for having initially had a surplus and since he's unable to fix this budget catastrophe, the library that exists today in Miami-Dade will be beaten down into uselessness.

Each County Commissioner represents you. The 13 of them can reset and restore the correct millage. Our only option is to get to them

How can you help? Come to Bookleggers at Gramps from 7:00-10pm on Saturday June 21st (link: https://www.facebook.com/events/414738195335137/). Each attendee already receives one free book, but if you sign a CALM sponsored petition you will get a second book for free.

If you are unable to attend this weekend, please sign up for Thunderclap here (link: http://bit.ly/savemdpls). Thunderclap is a platform that floods social media simultaneously for a just cause in a highly effective manner. The union of voices becomes very hard for people to ignore. We need the commissioners and the mayor to stop ignoring us and feel this is a good way to get the message across.

July 15th is the vote. Not yours, but theirs. Contact them. Claiming the death or irrelevance of the library is tantamount to hubris. The brazenness of disregarding their legacy is appalling and ignoring their future is nothing short of complete ignorance.

If you want to help even more, please contact CALM at CALMmiami@gmail.com or http://calmmiami.org
