BCC Budget Meeting

This day is pivotal to our success in the campaign for full-funding for MDPLS.

But before County Commissioners listen to the public, we'll stage a silent read-a-thon protest on the Government Center ground floor!

BYOB: Bring Your Own Books at 7:30AM and make a statement to County Commissioners as they enter the Chambers!

Last year, on this very same day, right when Mayor Gimenez abruptly turned back on a tax increase and news came that nearly half of the library system -- the public was stunned, and was left with no time to fight back.

Only one individual spoke for libraries that day.

This year, we will not make the same mistake again.

If you have not come out to speak, if you have not found the time, or if you have ever wondered if your voice would make a difference -- July 15 is that day.

During this meeting, County Commissioners will decide where to cap all millages for the entire County Budget, prior to approving it in September.

It is imperative that we have that room packed with Library supporters, and let our Elected Officials know that under no circumstances should our library be underfunded! Our community deserves a world-class library system!

Come out to speak for two minutes, tell your library story, and demand that our leaders listen to their constituents!

Join us on the ground floor of the Stephen P Clark Center before the Budget Meeting in a READ-A-THON! BYOB: Bring your own Books (and a chair!) and sit down and read in a silent-protest against the Library's budget cuts in the lobby of Government Center. We will be making a statement to the Commissioners as they enter the Chambers! The Libraries have already sustained over 50% cuts to the budget over the past three years -- its time to tell our Commissioners to restore funding at $64million! Should we be asked to move, we'll take our Read-a-Thon just outside the doors. Start reading at 7:30 AM and sign up to speak for the Budget Meeting. T-minus 3 days!

It has been stated that our Library buildings will remain open, but we know that they will be but a shadow of what they were before. Who will be left to maintain programming? Who be left to field our queries? Who will be left to ensure the security of us, the patrons, within the building? Who be left to give us the service that we deserve?
